Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken Wing Review: 6 Flavors Ranked

On this episode of The Sideline...

Episode overview

Which Hangry Joe's wing flavor should be on the table for the next college football Saturday or NFL Sunday? Zack, Mark and Scott sit down with six flavors from Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken & Wings: Original, Mild Dry Rub, barbecue, Buffalo, Wild Zing and Mango Habanero. They compare crispiness, meat, sauce, heat and the eternal flats-versus-drums argument before building their final rankings. Wild Zing is the clear winner for Zack and Scott. Its sweet, sticky flavor and slightly crispier finish earn scores of 8.5 and 9. Mark goes a different direction and puts barbecue first. The biggest surprise is the Original wing, which finishes second for all three hosts because it stays crispy while still being moist and flavorful. Mango Habanero brings the most heat, but even the least heat-tolerant host only puts it around a four out of ten. The episode also covers Hangry Joe's signature sauce and homemade ranch, and explains why the wings work for a football watch party. Hangry Joe's provided the food for this sponsored Community Connect tasting supporting its Northern Virginia locations.

Wild Zing Wins Two Ballots, but Barbecue Wins Mark’s

Zack and Scott put Wild Zing at the top after tasting its sweet, sticky seasoning and slightly crispier finish, scoring it 8.5 and 9. Mark breaks from the table and chooses barbecue as his favorite. The split gives families two strong watch-party options depending on whether they want a honey-style glaze or a sweeter barbecue wing.

The Original Wing Makes the Case for Keeping It Simple

The unsauced Original wing is the surprise of the tasting. All three hosts keep it near the top because the breading stays crisp while the chicken remains moist, meaty and flavorful. Zack and Scott rank it second, and Mark also places it behind only his barbecue favorite.

Mango Habanero Brings Heat Without Taking Over

Mango Habanero is the hottest flavor on the table, but the group rates its heat at only about three or four out of ten. That makes it approachable for someone who wants a little kick without losing the flavor. The hosts also praise Hangry Joe’s sauce and homemade ranch as worthwhile additions to the order.
