2026 NFL Week 8 Picks: Chiefs-Broncos & Browns-Steelers

On this episode of The Sideline...

Episode overview

Texas won the game, but Arch Manning still gave Ole Miss every opportunity to take it back. He looked comfortable in the first half before two interceptions and a lost fumble changed the second half. Texas eventually protected the result by leaning on its running game, which leads to a simple question: how far can the Longhorns go if they cannot trust their quarterback late in a close game? The rest of the college football conversation is about programs running out of room for excuses. Virginia Tech's win at Clemson raises another round of questions about Dabo Swinney, NIL and the transfer portal. Lincoln Riley and USC need an answer against Ohio State, while Florida-Georgia gives the Gators an opportunity to disrupt the SEC race. The guys also disagree on the country's most overrated contender, with Ohio State, Notre Dame and Miami all entering the discussion. Week 8 in the NFL is built around teams trying to prove that their records and recent performances are real. The Browns get a first-place opportunity against Pittsburgh, and everyone at the table takes Cleveland with the points. Denver hosts Kansas City after Seattle made Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense look mediocre, but the group splits on whether the Broncos are ready to finish the job. The episode closes by looking beyond the standings at the Packers, Buccaneers and Cowboys, three teams that could become much more dangerous if their offenses find balance.

Arch Manning Has to Stop Giving Games Away

Texas controlled the first half against Ole Miss before Manning threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. The Longhorns still escaped because the running game carried the final scoring drive, but that is not a dependable formula against the best teams in the SEC. If Texas expects to remain in the College Football Playoff race, Manning has to become a quarterback the offense can trust after halftime.

The Gap Between Kansas City and Denver Is Finally Small

Seattle made Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense look mediocre, while Denver is beginning to look more dangerous as Bo Nix uses his legs. Mark believes the Broncos are the better team right now. Zack and Scott still take Kansas City in a close, low-scoring game, but nobody treats the Chiefs as an automatic pick anymore.

Cleveland Deserves More Credit Before Facing Pittsburgh

The Browns are 5-2, tied for the division lead and getting three and a half points in Pittsburgh. Their defense is better than its reputation, while the Steelers offense has not convinced anyone at the table. All three hosts take Cleveland, even after a Browns-Titans game that was much closer than it should have been.
